Forbes List Can Teach an Important Lesson

I Love looking at the annual Forbes' 40 Richest Americans list. The reason I do is simple, I fantasize myself being on the list. Don't laugh. As we all know by now, It's actually good to visualize yourself as a successful, wealthy individual.

It's also pretty cool to see how wealthy some people really are. There are 40 billionaires on this list, the first time that's ever happened. That's good for both you and me. How?

Because it shows the opportunities and advantages that are available to those of us who live in the United States. With 40 billionaires and around 7.5 million millionaires the possibilities for anyone, and I do mean anyone, to become wealthy are endless.

Even if you don't want to be wealthy, the list still points out the fact that no matter what it is that you want - you can get it if you're seriously committed and work hard to achieve your goal.

The only limitations we have are in our minds. These are limitations that aren't real. They're a fictional creation of our own value and opinion of ourselves and from listening to the opinions of others.

Opportunities are everywhere for people who take the time and make the effort to look for them. Opportunities won't jump on your back and shout, "here I am." They are quiet, shy creatures that are around us all the time, but only if we look hard enough and long enough.

Technology today has made it relatively easy to start a business from home. You can do it sitting in your underwear, right from your home computer. Podcasting and RSS technology, along with broadband connectivity - has made it possible to self-publish books, magazines and newsletters right from your computer. You can even have your own radio show that's listened to by hundreds of thousands of people and yes, you guessed it, the broadcast station is your computer.

There has never been a better and more opportune time to start a business, whether home-based, Internet-based or a brick-and-mortar, real world enterprise. The possibilities are endless, although it takes more time and money to be successful if you choose the brick-and-mortar path.

All it takes is a vision coupled with determination, persistence and a continuous plan of action towards its fulfillment. Nothing within the bounds of nature is impossible. If someone has done something you want to do, than you can do it too.

There are no excuses. Life will give you what you want, but only if you're truly and deeply committed to having it. Your goal or goals must consume you. They must be your driving passion, your motivation for getting up in the morning. Focus is the key. When you put your whole heart and effort into accomplishing a goal - it has to come to you. It can be no other way.

So go look at the Forbes' Richest List of Americans and get motivated. Pick a goal, visualize it, make it your burning desire, create a plan and take continuous, persistent action until the goal is reached.

Follow through and who knows, you may be on that list yourself someday.
