Circumstances

Are you one of the many who feel that you're a victim of circumstances? Do you feel that the universe, for some unknown reason, is conspiring to make your life miserable? Is life beating you down and there's no end in sight?

If you said yes to any of these questions - you are dead wrong. What you need is to get over yourself and get on the right track.

I'm not saying that to be particularly harsh or to kick you when you're down, but it isn't the world that's out to get you. It's your own thoughts that are sabotaging every effort, every hope and every dream.

Circumstances don't just happen to you - you create your circumstances - even if you don't realize it.

This is a cause and effect universe. It gives you whatever your dominant thoughts and feelings are. If they're filled with lack and misery, that is what you'll get. If they're filled with happiness and abundance then ditto. Wayne Dyer said it best, "Circumstances don't make the man, they reveal him."

Don't get me wrong, not every day is going to be sunny and full of cheer. As long as we're alive there will be trials and obstacles. But these are just tests to expand our character and lead us on the path towards true success.

Problems and setbacks make us grow in strength, if we don't let them destroy us. Your attitude and dominant thought will determine how you react to obstacles. If you think the world is bad and you come at your problem with a negative outlook, guess what you'll get? NEGATIVE conditions. The opposite is also true. If you approach the problem with a positive outlook then POSITIVE conditions will flow into your life.

Bitching, moaning and whining will not change a bad situation, it will only make it worse. If you don't believe me, give it a try and see for yourself. You are the creator of your circumstances, you are the maker of your world. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you take control of your thoughts.

The sooner you take control of your thoughts, the sooner life gives you what you really want. This is not some new theory, it has been known throughout the ages. The problem is most will not put in the time or effort to take control, so they're bound in the life they want to get out of.

Thoughts are things and when you begin to exchange the negative thought for the positive, amazing events will start to happen in your life. It's as if a light switch has been turned on and all the darkness has been banished by the light.

Break the chains that bind you. Flip the switch. Reach out and grab your freedom. Take control of your thoughts and you change your circumstances. Create your circumstances and you mold and shape your destiny. It really is that simple.

Imagination

The importance of imagination in the achievement of goals can't and shouldn't be overlooked. Albert Einstein once said that imagination is more important than knowledge. Even the Holy Bible mentions the unbelievable power of this mental faculty.

In the eleventh chapter of Genesis, the sixth verse states, "And the Lord said, behold the people is one and they all have one language; and this they begin to do: And now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imgained to do."

Do you get that? Can you fully grasp the awesome possibilities in the previous statement? Read it again and again until it seeps into your deeper consciousness. It's that important. There's no reason people need fail in any endeavor. The excuses are officially over.

Nothing will be restrained from them means just that. Anything you want can be yours as long as it doesn't violate the laws of God or man. The key is the imagined to do part. Imagined is visualization - the creation of a mental picture of an as-yet-to-happen event.

So the gist of the passage in Genesis is that whatever you visualize with consistency and belief, will become reality in your life. This is the tremendous, awesome power of your imagination in full bloom.

Everyone has it within them to make their imagination create the life they envision, but few make an attempt or even understand the tremendous power between their ears. It's really very simple - decide what you want, visualize it constantly, believe that it will happen, let your subconscious show you the way and take persistent, focused action until the objective is achieved.

The correct use of the imgaination has been a prime reason for the success of individuals in all callings and endeavors.

Business titans like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller and Sam Walton have tapped into this power. Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great and Ghengis Kahn have made use of their imaginations to become world conquerors. Closer to home - a bevy of sports stars, actors and ordinary people from all walks of life - have achieved incredible success by harnessing the power of the imagination.

Learn the correct use of your imagination; your visualizing muscle, and the universe will give you your hearts desires. God has endowed every one of us with this incredible gift - the ability to picture in our minds something we want to happen - knowing that one always moves in the direction of their dominant thoughts.

Live life letting circumstances drift you to and fro with no clear-cut purpose or destination. Or harness the awesome power of your imagination and create the life that you desire. The choice as always, is yours.

The Best Time of the Day

Visualization is a key tool in the quest for a more successful life. Creating and holding a mental picture in the mind allows one to stay focused on their goal and develops a burning desire in the soul that propels one to the finish line, no matter what obstacles get in the way.

The act of visualizing alone will not bring the thought to reality. You must also combine the thought image with belief and action. Follow these rules and success is assured.

But did you know there are certian times during the day when your visualization powers are at their peak?

The key to effective visualization is to be in a total relaxed and receptive state. If the body and the mind are in a deep state of relaxation, then the power of the visualization is increased a hundredfold.

It only makes sense. If you're stressed or worried or unfocused when you do your mental picturing, how can good results possibly flow from these kinds of conditions? The energy vibration is restricted and in some cases, completely cut off. That is not the vibrational state one needs to be in.

Since everything is energy vibrating at different speeds, it only makes sense that your mental energy is free to flow unrestricted. The best way to do that is in a semi-sleep state.

This semi-sleep - also known as Alpha state - is best achieved first thing in the morning and right before you go to bed at night. At these times, the body and mind are in a totally relaxed state. In this state, the mind is open to suggestion and mental picturing.

Use this to your advantage. As soon as you awake, start your mental movie and try to incorporate all five senses in the visualization process. It doesn't have to be a half-hour marathon. Just take five minutes and you'll be amazed at the results.

For the evening visualization, start your mental picturing around 5-10 minutes before you drift off to sleep. This is also a good time to feed your subconscious any problem you may be having at the present. The advantages are many.

When you do the evening visualization - your subconscious mind keeps working on the vision or the answer while you sleep - bringing you closer to your goal or the solution to a troubling problem. Many famous writers, artists and business leaders have followed this technique with amazing results.

Visualization mixed with belief and action will create wonders in your life. And if you want the results to come even quicker, then take advantage of the morning and evening principle. Visualize first thing upon arising and right before you drift off to sleep and you will see an amazing change in your life.

Age is Just a Number

You are only as old as you think you are. That isn't just a feel good statement anymore, it is a scientific fact.

Many new research findings have proven that what you think about yourself, and this includes how one views old age, is a major factor in the quality of life of an individual. Thoughts are things and since what you focus on expands, it only stands to reason that how you look at growing older will effect what the Golden Age of your life will be like.

We live in a culture that worships at the idol of youth and beauty and casts aside its elderly population to nursing homes or some convalecent home in Florida or some other warm place. In essence putting them out to pasture.

Nothing could be more hurtful or damaging to someone in their later years. Every human being has an innate desire to be appreciated, needed and useful. The popular culture and media conglomerates sell youth and ignore the aged. And that is a big mistake.

Old age is a time where all your experiences and knowledge can be put to good use. In our youth-too much passion, irrational decision-making and impatience are rules of the day. With age comes wisdom, patience and poise. There is so much our seniors can offer us, we just have to take notice and listen.

Even more injurious to the elderly is when they believe that their days are numbered and their life force used up. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You are only as old as your thoughts make you. Yes the body does slow down, but that doesn't mean your mind has to. Your body is the servent of the mind. Keep the mind young and you will be young. Learn new things, try new things and set new goals for yourself.

Many great business and political leaders rose to power in their elder years. Most wealthy entrepreneurs accumulated most of their riches after the age of 60. And it's not just business, many others in the worlds of art, literature, architecture and finance have done great things while in their so-called twilight years.

Your life is what you think it and what you make it. If you are in the Golden Years, don't let them put you out to pasture. Recreate your mind and life anew and make those years really and truly golden.

What Does the Future Hold?

(Editor's note:This is not the usual success philosophy columns that appear here. I decided to write about an ever increasing problem with many of the youth of today. And while I strongly believe in the individual's ability to grow to high achievement, there is a collective universal conscious that is not always positive. There's a disturbing trend happening in our culture that we must get control of while we still can.)

There's a serious problem that is slowly but surely bringing about the destruction of this once great democracy. Eating us from the inside out and spreading its disease all over the globe.

What is this cancer? It's the moral bankruptcy and Political Correctness philosophy that has infected our culture. Digging its way right into the very fabric of our collective consciousness.

The decent citizens of the good ole USA have let the losers and those with abject stupidity become the majority. And the biggest dilemma in the whole situation is most of these idiots are too thick-headed or intoxicated to realize they're fools. The lunatics have taken over the asylum and locked us in their cells.

How did this happen? When did this happen? More importantly, why did this happen? Good questions all.

The seeds of the current stupidity revolution occurred in the mid-sixties with the flower power movement. The free love fools who chose to ignore basic morality and the teaching of the Bible decided that anything goes.

Whoopee! They shouted running naked through a bunch of hemp. No rules, no responsibility and no accountability. That was their mantra. This was their battle cry. To hell with all authority, values and the good book and down with America. The losers were starting to assert themselves.

The sad part of the whole story is these idiots grew up, or at least thought they did, decided to reproduce and become parents. Can you see where we're going here? Individuals with no moral compass, no restraint and free love philosophy were let loose, subjecting their idiotic, valueless culture to unsuspecting, trusting children.

Imagine that, these losers trying to raise kids through a haze of drugs and bloodshot, glassy eyes. And the real tragedy is that over the years, no one really saw a problem with all of this.

So a generation of children grew up with a morals-restricted compass and no psychological skills to do anything to change it. And that generation begat another generation with even less morals and values - until now we are left with a huge chasm and not enough materials to fill the gaping hole.

With no rules and restrictions, children are left to their own devices in a modern world dominated by PC slogans, sex and violence. Because of the radical left, disciplining or dare I say spanking kids is off limits. Instead, sparing the rod has spoiled the child and parents go out of their way to give them whatever they desire.

We now have a generation worse than X, which only care about themselves and no one else. Whatever they do is right, because they were never told no. This has caused an unnatural selfishness to blossom in the heart of the child. A human life has no value unless it's something this lost generation can use for their benefit.

If a relationship doesn't go the way you want, get a new one. See someone else you like - go ahead - sleep with him or her. Don't want your unborn child, then kill it. Everyone else is doing it, so why not you? It is the age of know-it-alls who know nothing, but don't realize they know nothing. There is no us only me. This is the me-me-me generation. I want, I want and you better give it to me or else.

And let's not forget the old standbys - drugs and alcohol. Instead of disappearing drugs have become an even bigger influence on the youth of today. The chemicals have gotten stronger in an attempt to block out the pain of an unfulfilled life. The sad fact is it's a life that's been unfulfilled because of one's own choices and actions.

Without guidelines to follow or any acceptable value system, the youth have gone wild. Running through the streets with no desire to contribute to society in any way, shape or form. It's all about them, no one else. Welcome to the Pleasure Dome, welcome to the age of instant gratification.

Forget reading, study and contemplation. This is the age of Ipod, Xbox, satellite TV and cell phones. Most youngsters have a natural born ADD because of all the stimuli hitting their senses all at once. No reflection, no meditation and no social responsibility.

This is the great paradox. As mankind grows in knowledge, material success and technological skill, we've sunk deeper and deeper in a vat of moral decay.

Yes indeed. Get the Ten Commandments out of the courthouse and God out of the schools, but let's have child pornography all over the internet and graphic violence on television and in the movies. Is it any wonder we're on a slow decent into the abyss?

A nation is in trouble when a spotted owl is protected from harm, but it's okay to destroy a human life by denying them food and water for 13 days. Don't get me wrong, I love animals, but when an owl is considered more important than a human being, there's a serious problem with a nations ethics.

And what will happen in the next 20 years? 30? How about 40? If this generation of twenty-something's have no direction, goals and respect, what will their children or their children's children be like? How terrifying can this world become? If things don't change and soon, I shudder to think what the future holds.

A Success Bibliography

Applied knowledge is power. It's a statement I live and work by. Knowledge alone is insufficient unless one adapts it to their specific situation and applies what they've learned.

If you want to become a carpenter, mechanic, architect or anything for that matter, you must gain the knowledge and skill sets required for the particular subject of interest. The same is true with success philosophy and self-improvement.

If you want to better your life and create the reality you desire, knowledge of how to do that is a must. One of the best ways to accomplish the task is through books. Sadly, we are becoming a nation that reads less and less every day. That is a shame.

Reading is a fundamental key to achieving the life of your desires. There is so much timeless wisdom that has been passed through the ages, it's a tragedy that many choose to miss out on knowledge that could have a profound effect on their lives.

With that in mind, I have compiled a list of some of the best material ever written in the field of self-help, self-improvement, success philosophy or whatever anyone wants to call it. This is mainly directed at someone who is beginning the success journey, but many who have read these works before might use them as a refresher to keep motivated and on course.

These are just some of the ones that have had a profound influence on me. They are by no means a complete and exhaustive effort. As a matter of fact, if there is a particular work you feel should be on this list, drop me a line and I will update it from time to time.

In no particular order of importance, here are some works on success seeking that everyone should check out:

  1. Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill
  2. As a Man Thinketh - James Allen
  3. Pushing to the Front - Orison Swett Marden
  4. The Science of Success - Wallace Wattles
  5. TNT, the Power Within - Claude Bristol
  6. Message From a Master - John McDonald
  7. The Power of Your Subconcious Mind - Joseph Murphy
  8. It Works - RH Jarrett (booklet)
  9. The Book of Mind Management - Dennis Deaton
  10. The New Brain - Richard Restak
  11. The Power of Intention - Wayne Dyer
  12. The Street Kids Guide to Having It All - John Assaraf
  13. Th 10 Secrets to Success and Inner Peace - Wayne Dyer
  14. Mozart's Brain and the Fighter Pilot - Richard Restak
  15. The Holy Bible

As I stated earlier, these works are by no means definite. But this is a good starting point and if you absorb and apply this knowledge, success will be ever closer within your reach.

Action

Nothing happens without movement - Albert Einstein

That keen observation, one of many by the greatest scientist of the age, shines light on a crucial component in any study of success philosophy. That component of course is action. Nothing happens without action. A fact of science and a fact in creating the life you desire.

You can put all the success theories, principles and writers together and absorb everything they teach. But if you don't put those lessons into action - nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, will happen in your life. One may even go backwards.

An individual may affirm, visualize and keep a positive attitude until they're blue in the face, but if they take no action towards their goals, success will run from them as fast as a rabbit runs from a wolf.

Action is the catalyst. The only difference between successful and unsuccessful people is movement. Successful people take action towards their goals and never give up until the objective is achieved. Unsuccessful people never take action because they let fear and doubt stop them in their tracks.

Focused action coupled with persistence is an unbeatable duo that can mow down any obstacle that gets in the way. Develop these and in time, nothing will be withheld from you. Action is faith in motion. It's knowing that no matter how tough the going gets, if you persist, your action (faith in motion) will bring you the fruits of your vision.

Action is the base of the achievement triangle talked about in a recent article. Thought (goal)-belief (faith)-focused action coupled with persistence. Embrace the principles that represent the achievement triangle and a whole new world of success and abundance will unfold before your eyes.

There is no big secret to success and no magical potions. Just apply and follow the known, proven principles to lasting accomplishement. That's all there is to it. Don't stress over how you're going to reach your goals. Just focus on one at a time, visualize its achievement, believe you'll achieve it and take focused, persistent action towards it and success is assured.

Follow your non-conscious urgings and your intuition. They will let you know if you're on the right path. If not, change course and go in the direction your heart takes you. You don't have to have a complete, systemized plan for reaching your goal. Just use your natural, God-given instincts and take action in the direction you're led.

Nothing happens without movement. Follow the achievement triangle, understand the Four Pillars of Success and take action towards your goal(s) and remember, nothing can stop you from success but yourself.

Money is Energy

Everything is energy. It's one of the immutable laws of life that governs the entire universe. We all are energy and the world we live in is energy. Even though it appears solid everything is vibrating at different speeds.

The slower the speed the more solid it looks but in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. Everything is energy, including money.

Money. Everyone wants it, but few know how to get it and keep it flowing into their life. There are plenty of methods to acquire it. Such as the stock market, IRA, mutual funds, CDs and savings accounts among others. If you are interested in any of these, search out the experts and get the answers you need.

For this article, we will be talking about the metaphysical aspects of acquiring money. Don't click away. I promise this is not some New-Age fluff I'm trying to sell you. This is honest-to-goodness Quantum Scientific ways to bring money into your life.

Since money is energy it can be attracted to you. If and only if you're on the right vibrational frequency.

How do you attract that energy? Good question. Here is the simple answer.

By your thoughts. Since everything is energy - including money and thoughts - if you focus your mind on the accumulation of money, you will attract the money energy into your life. But there is more that needs to be done.

There is no such thing as something for nothing. You must do some work. Setting and thinking about money comng into your life is just a daydream, a fantasy played out in the mind. What makes it a reality is combining your money thoughts with belief and focused action.

It's the points of the achievement triangle: Thought-Belief (faith)-Focused Action. Combine all three and abundance will flow into your life.

An important point to remember is not to be consumed with the acquisition of money. Money has no value except what we give it through our perceptions. It's just a piece of paper that on a deeper level is just a form of energy. Focus instead on the things that money can give you. Because in the end, that's what we want anyway. Not the money, but the things we purchase with it.

The better way is to focus on your definite purpose. Think from the end (how you want to look, feel and live). Believe that you have already achieved it and are awaiting it's coming with excited anticipation. Finally, take focused action and don't stop until your purpose is achieved.

Follow and apply these steps and believe me, if acquiring money is part of your purpose, it will flow to you in an endless supply. Remember the triangle: Thought-Belief-Focused Action. It is the key to all accomplishement. Not just the accumulation of money.

Success Quotes-8

This is the eighth in a multi-part series of some of my favorite success and inspiration quotations. I hope you enjoy them:

Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish.
Albert Einstein

Ethical axioms are found and tested not very differently from the axioms of science. Truth is what stands the test of experience.
Albert Einstein

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions.
Albert Einstein

I never think of the future - it comes soon enough.
Albert Einstein

Imagination is more important than knowledge...
Albert Einstein

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.
Albert Einstein

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
Albert Einstein

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
Albert Einstein

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.
Albert Einstein

Try not to become a man of success but rather to become a man of value.
Albert Einstein

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
Albert Einstein

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Albert Einstein

The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.
Albert Einstein

If A is success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut.
Albert Einstein

Great spirits have always encountered opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly.
Albert Einstein

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. Albert Einstein

Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized. Albert Einstein

He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice. Albert Einstein

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Albert Einstein

I know quite certainly that I myself have no special talent; curiosity, obsession and dogged endurance, combined with self-criticism have brought me to my ideas. Albert Einstein

Keep on sowing your seed, for you never know which will grow - perhaps it all will. Albert Einstein

The Three Types of People

If one studies human nature long enough, they'll find basically three types of people in the world - leaders, followers and BSers. (I need to keep this a G-rating, but you know what I mean).

Of course we all know the personality profile of the leader. He/she is goal and action oriented, quick to make tough decisions and keeps on going when times get tough. They are the creative people.

Followers have some characteristics of the leader, but for whatever reason, their psychology will not allow them to take the next step to be a true leader. They allow fear and doubt, coupled with a false sense of security, lull them into a half-sleep state where just having a job that pays them on a regular basis is enough.

Most followers will not take the risk to jump out on their own and create the life they want. Some are crippled with the fear of failure syndrome and never venture on the ledge or try to advance up the ladder in the job they do have.

BSers have absolutely none of the attributes of a leader and all of the faults of a bad follower. They use bravado and lies to make themselves look important. Even though they're the most insecure people on the inside.

A favorite hobby of the BSer is to browbeat other people and order them around. BSers are quick to point out the splinter in another's eye, but can't see the huge tree in their own. Their arrogant and boisterous tone is only to hide the years of failure and the little, scared child buried deep within their soul.

You don't even have to be told who a BSer is because they let themselves get spotted right away. Just follow the smell and listen for the bragging and you'll know who it is.

A leader keeps his mouth shut and only speaks when he has something important to say. The BSer can't stop talking about how great he is or all the accomplishments that never happened. They're like Don Quixote charging the windmill over and over again. If they aren't talking about their hallucinatory exploits, they're trying to shove fake business cards in your face.

The follower, depending on their personality, is somewhere in between the leader or the BSer.

As you can tell by now, the worst type you could be is the BSer. A follower can rise into leadership or sink down to the BSer - it's all in their decisions. The world needs leaders and followers because without either, the economy would go up in smoke. The follower tag is not a bad thing unless the traits of the BSer start to seep through.

The BSer is totally useless to society and even worse, they're annoying. So take my advice, be a leader or a good follower and you'll live a happy life. And if a BSer crosses your path, run like hell to the nearest exit.

Your Life is Waiting

The life of your dreams is out there waiting for you. Are you going to take the steps needed to make it a reality or are you going to set there bitching and moaning?

Sorry to be so harsh today, but I'm so tired of hearing people complain about how bad their life sucks, how God could do this to them and all sorts of lame, worn out excuses. God has nothing to do with success or failure.

Each individual has within the abilities and tools that can propel one from poverty to penthouse if they'd just take the first step and go for it. Life is about action, movement and doing. Far too many people never, ever make a move towards their goals, or even set any for that matter. Then they set and whine on why nothing ever works out.

We were put here to succeed. It's built into the very core of our being. But there are certain rules you must follow to win in this game of life. To learn a trade or put together a bike for your kid, you need to either have an instruction manual or a teacher to show you the way.

That's the way the game of life is played. There are definite principles to achievement that practically guarantee the success you deserve. The key is to learn them, apply them and take action. The learning part is easy. It's the doing and applying that trip people up.

We live in an age that's spoiled. The 'I want something for nothing crowd' is growing by leaps and bounds. Don't be one of those. The Universe gives you what you earn. It can't be any other way. Sowing and reaping or cause and effect, along with like attracts like, are universal laws that you can't usurp. You might get away with it for awhile, but in the end, they will exact their prices.

You can achieve the life of your dreams and all the goals you've set for yourself. Just follow the definite rules and laws governing the universe as it pertains to achievement and successful living. The key is to DO IT! Will you?

The Three Killers of Achievement

If you want to achieve success at any level you must avoid the three killers to all achievement. They are - worry, fear and doubt - the harbingers of disaster. Don't allow any of these dangerous emotions to take up residence in your mind.

The minute you let any or all of the three get a foothold, it can be almost impossible to irradicate them. Problems arise because these negative emotions feed off one another. If you let doubt creep in, fear and worry follow. If you let fear in, worry and doubt bring their baggage as well. It creates a never-ending cycle of gloom and doom.

The three killers stop more people from reaching a goal or even starting one than I care to imagine. There is no failure unless you quit and the terrible trio are the root cause of all quitting. No matter what the endeavor or how large or small the goal, worry, fear and doubt will do the same amount of damage.

To rid them is not an easy process if they have been embedded in your psychology for a long period of time. It is possible to vanquish these devils, but it takes some persistence and a shift in attitude. Here are 4 steps to stop fear, doubt and worry from killing your hopes and dreams.

  1. Keep reading positive articles like this, as well as books, audios and anything else related to success philosophy and self-improvement.
  2. Visualize your goal as it will be when completed and all the positive feelings that it brings. Visualize it often.
  3. Use I choose affirmations to eradicate the three killer emotions. (Example: I choose to be a fearless, confident achiever).
  4. When you feel fear and doubt coming, take action towards your goal immediately. As Emerson said, "Do the thing you fear and the death of fear is certain."

If you follow the above four steps faithfully, the three killers of achievement will never be able to take root and wreck your dreams.

Goal Setting Done Right

Probably no other topic in the self-improvement field has been more of a hot-button issue than goal setting. As many theories exists for effective goal setting as there are self-help books on the market.

In this article, we’re going to do away with theories and look at facts from my own and the personal experience of others.

GET A DEFINITE PURPOSE

I won’t go into much detail here because I’ve already written an article on finding your definite purpose. In a nutshell, write down all your interests and dig down to find out what your really joy. What do you spend your free time doing? What would you do even if you weren’t paid? Ask these probing questions to discover what you really want out of life.

Once you discover what makes your clock tick, write down your goal or goals in a notebook. Write them out on 3x5 index cards as well and place them around your house were you have easy access to them. Write them out on sticky notes and place them on your computer screen. What you want is to bombard your mind with these goals until they become a part of you.

Each and every time you read your goal stop and visualize its attainment, even if it’s only for a few seconds. Use all the senses in your visualization. Make it as real as possible and put feeling into it.

THE BIG NO-NO

The major mistake where goal setting is concerned is in setting a date for the goals completion. DO NOT SET A DEADLINE FOR YOUR GOAL!! I know that’s what most of the guru’s tell you to do, but following that advice is a big mistake.

Of course there have been people who set deadlines on their goals and achieved them. I’m not saying it can’t happen. It’s just not the best way. Here’s why.

Putting a deadline on an objective creates even more added pressure on the goal setter. If the deadline nears and the goal is not yet reached, frustration builds and doubt enters the picture. If the deadline passes and the goal is not reached, the doubt and frustration can develop into despair, anger and depression.

When that happens, many people don’t even bother setting goals and going after them. They resign themselves to a failure mentality. This is not the way to be. Every goal that I’ve ever accomplished came when I didn’t set a deadline. When I did, I never reached my objective.

Take a look at Michael Jordan. ‘His Airness’ not only didn’t put deadlines on his goals, he never even wrote them down. He kept them in his head and would visualize their attainment constantly. We all know what happened – he became the greatest basketball player of all time and led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles.

LET THE UNIVERSE DECIDE WHEN

The universe is a funny beast. It creates things in its own good time. There is a time for everything under heaven, so no matter how much you try to force it, events will happen when the proper hour is at hand.

You influence the quantum field with your thoughts, but the act of creation has its own time frame. Placing artificial deadlines on the universe will actually cause this creation process to slow down or stop working all together.

When you take the restrictions off and go about your business of visualizing, believing and taking focused action, the universe will bring your goal to you in a smooth and effortless manner. And it will come in its appropriate time.

Fail Your Way to the Top

By John Assaraf

Have you had a challenging day or week? Feel a little tired or discouraged with a current situation? Ready to throw in the towel and quit something?

Don’t worry. It’s very normal to go through times of feeling that something in life stinks and all there is to see and feel is the current mess.

Here is something neat to ponder during those times, though. When doing battle with discouraged feelings, take a look at this report and reflect on this man's record of failure. It is a testament to how humans can learn and grow and win despite the losses and defeats.

Failed in business-------------------------------------1831

Defeated for legislature------------------------------1832

Failed in business again----------------------------1833

Elected to legislature---------------------------------1834

Sweetheart died----------------------------------------1835

Nervous breakdown------------------------------------1836

Defeated for speaker----------------------------------1838

Defeated for land officer------------------------------1843

Defeated for congress--------------------------------1843

Elected to congress-----------------------------------1846

Defeated for re-election-------------------------------1848

Defeated for senate------------------------------------1855

Defeated for vice president--------------------------1856

Defeated for senate------------------------------------1858

Elected President--------------------------------------1860

Who was he?

He was a simple, uneducated, country boy who refused to allow his uncongenial circumstances stop him. He refused to be a victim. He refused to accept failure. He refused to listen to people who told him he was crazy. He refused to stay down when he felt like nothing was going his way.

Simply put, he picked himself up no matter what and kept on going after his dream. He educated himself and did whatever it took to keep moving in the direction of his passions.

Who was he? Abraham Lincoln.

If you reflect back on your life, you can find patterns of the times you grew the most. Many of those times were probably a result of some kind of previous 'failure,' maybe even a series of them.

Remember: children don't fail when they are learning to walk. They fall down over and over again. It is the falling that teaches them and strengthens them.

Each failure is a learning experience. And the faster people pick themselves up, reflect on the past occurrence and go again, the faster they can achieve their goals and dreams.

So with this in mind, choose the one thing that may not be going exactly as you wish right now and do one thing to move you closer to achieving the result you want. And remember, life is about learning and growing.

Beware of Psychic Vampires

By John Assaraf

I am often asked how I stay happy and motivated all the time. The answer has two parts to it; positivity and self-talk.

Many years ago I had a colleague who was forever complaining about everything and everyone in her life. Each day when she arrived at the office, it would start, "you wouldn't believe this... can you imagine he did that...this will never work, I'm so tired..." and so on.

This would go on all day and it would drive everyone in the office nuts!

She was what I like to refer to as a "Psychic Vampire", someone who tries to steal away your great thoughts and energy. Her negative energy would wear you down if you allowed it to penetrate you. The negative ideas that she came up with on a constant basis really affected some of the employees.

She was so negative the lights would come on when she left a room!

Do you know anyone like that in your life? Do you know someone who constantly tries to suck the life force out of you or those around you?

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVITY

I have made it my absolute law that I do not allow any negative people anywhere near me. My energy is way too precious, and so I protect it. I only surround myself with people who are positively charged both mentally and physically. The exchange between us is vibrant and energizing, not depleting.

We are all just made up of energy, and we release and take on energy with every breath and thought. We must be very careful with whom we associate with and with whom we allow into our energy zone.

So word of caution:

- - - - Do not allow anyone the chance to steal your life force!

POSITIVE SELF TALK

The other very important distinction is being aware of my own "self talk".

The chatter in my own mind is even more important than what others say. Keep your thoughts positive. If you find yourself caught up in negative self-talk stop at once and change your internal chatter. You must be aware of the times you aren't saying or thinking nice thoughts about yourself. You are listening and conditioning your hidden self-image whether or not you are aware of it.

If I ever catch myself talking negatively to myself I immediately change " mental tracks" and say something positive to myself. If something comes up over and over again, I know there's a deeper challenge I must address. I then go to work on reconditioning my mind with affirmations that are opposite to the negative mental chatter.

For the next seven days become very aware of the people around you, and do not allow any negative energy around you.

Also, be in tune with the mental chatter that goes on in your own head. Stop any negative dialogue that you catch yourself having, and replace it immediately with something positive!

As always, remember to...

Create Great Results!

Why You Need a Burning Desire to Succeed

As Napoleon Hill said so succinctly, “a burning desire is the starting point of all riches.” Your definite purpose must be fused with a burning desire in order for the universe to acquiesce to your demands.

Without a burning desire, without passion for the objective you’re trying to reach, only a half-hearted effort will be put forward for its attainment. And a half-hearted effort will accomplish very little.

Only an all-out focused effort will bring you the objectives you seek and the only way to create this all-out effort is by enveloping your definite purpose with a burning passion. Mix those ingredients with concentrated thought and confident action; the whole universe will bow to your wishes.

How do you acquire a burning desire? With tools already in your arsenal – imagination, affirmation and knowledge of what drives you.

Decide what you really want, visualize its attainment over and over and over again with feeling and finally, affirm constantly that you really want this and you will achieve it. Before long, you will create a burning desire so white hot, that nothing will be able to stop you.

The desire should be so strong that it’s the first thing you think about in the morning and the last thing you think about before going to sleep. It should dominate your thoughts. You may have other things to do during your day, but after those tasks are done, your burning desire should be front and center in your conscious mind.

A burning desire, backed by faith, allows you to go through the difficult times knowing that in the end, you will emerge victorious. A burning desire, backed by faith, allows you to move forward, no matter what the cost, to reach your objective. A burning desire, backed by faith, is the strongest force in the universe.

An important side note: Your burning desire should be something of a positive nature. If your desire is to hurt someone or gain something through illegal means or cause any injury at all, you will pay a heavy price. Remember cause and effect. What you sow you reap, so only desire things that can benefit yourself and mankind in a positive way.

If you follow the above rule, visualize and affirm your intention with feeling, you will create a burning desire that will sweep all obstacles and problems out of your way. A burning desire is the starting point of all achievement. You can develop one even if you don’t have it right now. Trust me, its well worth the effort.

What the Bible Says About Success

While most people believe that the pursuit of success is a modern day obsession, nothing could be further from the truth. Down through the ages, ambitious men and women have pursued lofty goals and aspirations with the hope of achieving financial and physical comforts.

Even the Bible has spelled out detailed advice for those who wish to pursue their dreams and goals. It is these success principles that I would like to focus on for this article.

Without a doubt the most significant verse in the Bible pertaining to achieving success is found in the Gospel of Mark. In Mark 9:23 of the KJV its states, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

If you develop the kind of belief or faith that the Bible describes as Jesus taught, nothing would be impossible for you. NOTHING!!! How unbelievable and inspiring is that. A similar passage is related in Matthew 17:20, when Jesus said, “If ye have faith (belief) as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say to this mountain (obstacle), remove hence to yonder place and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

Belief is the cornerstone to success, doubt and fear are the cripplers of achievement. This was written about in James 1:5-6. “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”

Focused work in your chosen field is also an essential ingredient for success. In Proverbs 22:29 we read, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

Laziness or half-hearted effort will lead to disaster. In Proverbs 6:9-11 it spells this out very clearly. “How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.”

Finally, we have a success principle in Hebrews that wasn’t understood until now, thanks to the advancement of Quantum Mechanics and the field of Neuroscience.

In Hebrews 11:3 we have the very profound statement, “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” It’s the last part of the verse you need to focus on.

Things, which are seen, were made by things that we cannot see, the invisible quantum world. Through our visualization and persistent thought we create the fabric of our lives. Coupled with faith and laser-like focus, you have an unstoppable combination for success in any endeavor.

Now whether you believe in the Bible or not is your own personal decision, but even if you don’t, apply these principles and use their teachings for your own pursuit of a successful life.

Visualization

Of all the success principles that have been taught, none has been more misunderstood or argued about than visualization.

The current state of the self-help field teaches that all you do is visualize every morning and night and your goal (visualization) will attract itself to you. Sorry, but that just isn’t the case.

Visualization is a tool, an important one of course, but you have to do more than just visualize. Sorry people, but the success game is a little bit more complicated than that. The universe requires you to earn your way, to prove that you have the muster and gumption to deserve your goal or goals.

What you sow, you reap. In other words, you must earn your way by your efforts. Visualization alone will not do it. We live in an action-oriented world and while visualization serves an important purpose, your visions and dreams must be balanced with purposeful pursuit of those goals.

The true importance of visualizing is to keep you focused on your target. Visualization should be done during every waking moment, not just at certain times. By that I mean you must keep your vision in your mind as you go about your day. You don’t have to close your eyes, listen to music and all that stuff. Just have it there in the back of your mind to bring to recall at a moments notice.

Focused action must be accompanied with all visualization. Otherwise all you have is a daydream. It doesn’t have to be a giant step, as long as it’s some type of action that will start you on the way to acquiring what you’re visualizing.

The individuals who are teaching that all you do is visualize are doing a complete disservice to those pursuing the path to personal excellence. If it were that easy, everyone would accomplish their wildest dreams. But as we all know, that just ain’t so.

Visualization and action work synergistically to create the life of your dreams. Visualization alone is not enough. Combine it with small action steps toward your vision and life will give you what you ask of it.

Timeless Universal Laws

Everything is Energy

Everything in the universe is energy. Every bit of matter is energy. Every intangible quality, like thoughts and feelings are energy. We all make and receive this energy. You can’t escape it even if you tried.

All the other timeless universal laws flow from this one. Energy is everywhere. It’s how God established the earth. “Let there be light (energy),” is the first statement the Creator made when forming the world. Understand this law and you will mark a turning point in your life. Energy is everywhere. Harness it to create the life you imagine.

Like Attracts Like

Since everything is energy and all forms of energy have different vibrations, it’s only natural that like attracts like. Since we know that thoughts are things and are made of electromagnetic impulses, it’s common sense to figure out that like vibrations will attract to each other.

It's as reliable as a magnet. If you are negative and depressed, you will attract negativity and depression. There can be no other way. This is absolute truth. Opposites attract is a falsehood. Eventually they will repel one another. So focus your thoughts on what you want instead of what you don’t want.

Cause and Effect or Sowing and Reaping

For every action there is a reaction. What you give is what you get. We have all heard this law in one form or another in our lives. Yet, despite its simplicity and familiarity, most don’t understand the true power it implies.

If you go out of your way to cause others harm, rest assured, it will be returned to you threefold. On the other hand, if you go out of your way to help people, it will be returned hundredfold. The implication of this law for success philosophy students is the ability to create your life as you see fit. Provided you take the action to achieve it.

Every Adversity Carries an Equivalent Benefit

As long as we are on this big blue marble known as planet Earth there will be times when things don’t work out right. When problems arise, try to remember this universal law and look for the hidden benefit in the situation.

Every problem that comes into your life has a built in solution. Difficulties can be surmounted and obstacles overcome by using persistence, patience and searching for the equivalent benefit. In time finding the good in every problem will become second nature and a valuable lesson will be learned. Adversity helps build character and strength.
Relax and find the good in every situation. It will change your way of thinking.

Connectivity

Because everything is energy, we are connected to everyone and everything in the universe. The same quantum soup that created us, made the acorn, a bird, the stars and the galaxy. We are all one.

Connecting into the source, tapping it when we need it is a simple process. It has been around for thousands of years and is still practiced by many today in the Eastern world. In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m talking about meditation.

Western culture has the mistaken belief that meditation is some out-of-date theory that has no basis in modern society. Nothing could be further from the truth. The art of meditating has numerous benefits for your physical health, psychological being and everything in between.

Meditation doesn’t have to be long process where there’s a bunch of chanting. Just close your eyes, take deep breaths and connect to the source of everything. And all it takes is five minutes a day.

The Power of Focus

Self-help guru, Tony Robbins, once said “controlled focus is like a laser beam.”

If a laser didn’t have a specific target to lock onto, its energy would dissipate into the atmosphere. But focus that laser on the target with enough energy and it will pass through solid steel.

Place a magnifying glass in the path of suns rays and you have a powerful force at work. That is pure, concentrated focus at its best. Such is the power of controlled attention and why it’s so important in achieving your goals.

If you are concentrating on a million things at once, there won’t be enough energy to accomplish any task set before you. But, focus on only one thing and you’ll involve your entire force in the completion of the goal.

All the energy an individual can muster, focused on a specific goal, can’t help but make that outcome a reality. Controlled focus, backed by faith, is an incredible power that will bring you any objective you want to achieve.

It’s perfectly fine to have many goals, but you must focus on them one at a time to bring all your power to their achievement. If you spread yourself thin, a goal may be accomplished, but it will take longer and with much more work needed to achieve it. If you focus on each goal, one at a time, then all your concentrated power is unleashed on the objective.

With controlled focus, one by one, all your goals will be completed. Do your tasks in order and don’t be led astray by multi-tasking. Contrary to popular opinion, multi-tasking is not a good thing. Doing too many projects at once leads to stress and a lack of productivity.

Taking things one at a time reduces stress and allows the individual to put all their power to the job at hand. Focus equals higher productivity and more success. A winning combination if there ever was one.

So remember the next time you feel stressed and swamped with work. Use the power of controlled focus. Take on each project one at a time, focus on the completion of each task and watch your productivity and your success soar.

The Power of Decision

Deciding to decide is one of the most powerful tools that nature has given mankind. The true successful leaders of the world are quick to decide and slow to change their minds.

Indecision is a disease that needs to be eradicated. Failure to make up your mind will cause irreparable damage that can have life-long consequences. Not being able to make a solid decision is right up there with self-doubt as the number one cause for lack of success. This shouldn’t happen. Deciding to decide is a relatively simple concept.

First, get a definite major purpose and create some smaller goals that will lead you to your major one. After figuring out what you want, make all your decisions based on those goals. If a choice you will make takes one further from the goal, don’t do it. If it leads one closer to the goal, than take action right away.

Indecision creates anxiety, depression and leaves the indecisive person in a pool of inertia that’s very hard to break free from. Each time a decision is put off, the problem gets bigger and bigger, like trying to drain the Atlantic Ocean with a teacup.

The way out is by deciding. Make a choice and follow the path. Be slow to change, but don’t be so rigid that you can’t see the forest for the trees. After a decent period of time, if the choice you’ve made isn’t working, go and try something else.

So if your stuck in a rut and aren’t sure where to go, decide to decide and that will set in motion forces to help you along the way. Decisiveness has power in the act itself. When you know what you want and make the decisions that will bring you closer to your goals, life magically falls into place.

Here are the steps to becoming more decisive in your life:

1. Find your definite purpose
2. Only make decisions that will lead you closer to your goals
3. Once a decision is made, be slow to change and quick to act
4. If a decision doesn’t work out after a period of time, stop and go another way
5. Wash, rinse and repeat

Follow these five steps and you’ll be a quality decision maker in no time.

The Power of Dominant Thought

Wayne Dyer, the famous author, speaker and teacher, likes to say in his writings that what you focus on expands. Nothing could be more profound or truthful.

What you focus on expands should be a rallying cry for all who want and are willing to pay the price to live the life they imagine. We are the sum total of all our thoughts. Our dominant thoughts create the life we have lived up to this point and will create our futures as well. Make no mistake about it.

This is not some New Age hocus-pocus. This principle has been around for centuries. The Bible says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, that is what he is.” Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius said, “a man’s life is dyed by the color of his thoughts,” and the Buddha commented that, “All that a man is comes from his thoughts.”

All of us at one time have used this power of dominant thought, whether we realized it or not. When as I was about 12 or 13 years old, I really wanted to be a running back on my midget football team. Most of the time, I played on the offensive and defensive lines, but I set my sights on running back.

During the full three months of summer vacation, all I thought about morning, noon and night, was being the starting running back on the football team. Soon summer was over and we had our first practice. The coach asked us where we wanted to play and I said running back.

Long story short, I won the starting position in tryouts and played the entire season as the starting fullback. All from my dominant thought over the summer.

That is just a minor example of the power of dominant thought. There have been larger and grand examples throughout history, like the conquests of Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan to name a few.

The important key to remember is it must be dominant thought. Half-hearted or fleeting thoughts will not bring about the desired intent. Only a thought that consumes you, that dominates your waking moments, is strong enough to make it become a reality.

Thoughts are things. Thoughts are electrical impulses and if a thought is strong enough it can reach out into the quantum field, which is also made up of various light vibrations (electrical impulses), and match you up with your desired thought. Like attracts like. This is a fact. If you couple your dominant thought with focused, confident action – life will give you whatever you ask.

The Importance of Study

I think its very important for people who want to create the life they envision, who want to improve themselves, should study success philosophy. Self-improvement is one of the cornerstones to a great life.

Of course they’re will be problems and setbacks in your life, these things are an inevitable part of living. That’s why you need to study self-improvement. If you make it a habit, self-improvement study can help you overcome your difficulties and keep you in a positive frame of mind.

Any kind of knowledge that can make you a better person is of paramount importance to developing character. Studying some of the great thinkers, writers and philosophers from the past, can only be beneficial to the person who pursues them.

Whatever is uplifting is good. Never stop trying to improve, to be better and to mold your character. Reading these masters will develop self-confidence and positive attitudes needed to fight off and solve problems when they do come.

We learn through repetition, association and emotion. Using these principles, if you keep studying success philosophy, it’s only natural that the constant bombardment of positive ideas and principles will have a beneficial effect on the person who studies this philosophy. It may take time to seep into your non-conscious, but rest assured, it will.

Biography, philosophy, positive psychology and uplifting stories should be a success student’s prime material of study. Through this material and life experiences an individual will form the strength of will and character needed to overcome any roadblocks along the way.

There is a goldmine of material for you to devour in your quest for a better life. Take advantage of the wealth of success philosophy available for you to study. Absorb the principles that you learn and apply them to your life. If you do, you’ll find that life will be a truly wonderful experience.
